Elon Musk Donates $259 Million to Support Donald Trump’s Presidential Campaign
New filings reveal that Elon Musk, one of the world’s richest individuals, spent over $259 million to back Donald Trump’s bid for the White House. The billionaire entrepreneur’s substantial contributions highlight his growing influence on US politics and the 2024 presidential race.
Massive Contributions to Trump-Aligned PACs
Musk donated $239 million to America PAC, a super political action committee (PAC) he established to boost voter turnout for Trump. Additionally, he contributed $20 million to RBG PAC in late October. This group sought to reassure voters that Trump would not sign a national abortion ban into law. The PAC’s name honours the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion of abortion rights.
These donations have positioned Musk as one of the most significant financial backers in US presidential campaign history. His support solidifies his role as a key political ally to Trump and an influential figure in shaping the incoming Republican administration’s policies.
Key Role in Trump’s Transition Team
Musk, who also owns Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, has become a close advisor to Trump’s transition team. Alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Musk co-leads a task force focused on reducing government spending and cutting regulations.
On Thursday, Musk and Ramaswamy met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to discuss their plans for sweeping federal budget cuts. Their proposals include eliminating expired programs, firing thousands of federal employees, and reducing regulations. Among the programs under review is veterans’ healthcare.
Frequent Advisor at Mar-a-Lago
Musk has become a prominent figure during the transition period, frequently meeting Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. His involvement underscores his growing influence in shaping the Republican agenda for the next administration.
