iDEX Signs Landmark 350th Contract for Miniaturised Satellite Development
Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence, has achieved a significant milestone by signing its 350th contract in New Delhi. The contract, signed with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd aimed at advancing satellite technology, marks a pivotal moment for iDEX and its commitment to fostering innovation in defence.
Key Contract with SpacePixxel Technologies
The landmark contract was signed with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd for the design and development of a miniaturised satellite. This satellite is capable of carrying various advanced payloads, including Electro-Optical, Infrared, Synthetic Aperture Radar, and Hyperspectral sensors, all within a weight limit of 150 kilograms. This development is set to enhance earth observation capabilities significantly.
The contract was exchanged between Mr Anurag Bajpai, Additional Secretary (Defence Production) & CEO of the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), and Awais Ahmed Nadeem Alduri, Founder & CEO of SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd. The signing took place in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and other senior civil and military officials from the Ministry of Defence.
Advancements in Space Electronics
SpacePixxel Technologies has been dedicated to building and launching high-resolution hyperspectral imaging satellites. The 350th iDEX contract represents a leap forward in space electronics innovation, enabling the miniaturisation of payloads that were traditionally deployed on larger satellites. This modular small satellite will allow for the integration of multiple miniaturised payloads, offering several advantages such as faster and more cost-effective deployment, ease of manufacturing, scalability, adaptability, and reduced environmental impact.
Commitment to Innovation and Indigenisation
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane commended the dedication of new defence innovators and stressed the importance of combining indigenisation with innovation. He highlighted that domestic capabilities provide a strong foundation for fostering innovation by offering a platform for experimentation and development. Innovation, in turn, drives indigenisation by creating new technologies and solutions that can be produced domestically. Aramane assured that all possible support would be extended to the innovators at every step.
iDEX’s Role in Transforming Defence Innovation
iDEX, which received the Prime Minister Award for Public Policy in the Innovation Category in 2021, has emerged as a transformative force in the defence ecosystem. Established by the DIO under the Department of Defence Production, iDEX has launched 11 editions of the Defence India Start-up Challenge (DISC). Additionally, the recent unveiling of the Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI) scheme aims to promote innovations in critical and strategic defence technologies.
