BRICS Hopes Saudi Arabia Will Extend Space Cooperation To Brazil

Team InterstellarBy Team InterstellarApril 12, 2023 Security & Politics No Comments2 Mins Read

The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Space Commission, Dr Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Tamimi, recently held a virtual meeting with Carlos de Mora, the Head of the Brazilian Space Agency, to explore possible areas of collaboration between the two entities in the space sector.

During the meeting, Al-Tamimi outlined the Kingdom’s aspirations for the space sector and its strategic goals and emphasised the importance of accelerating efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries. He also called for developing future partnerships, especially in research, science, and technology, and promoting technical cooperation, innovation, and investment in the space sector to benefit humanity.

As signatories to the Artemis Accords, the two sides discussed the latest trends to expand the use of space for social and economic development purposes, including the programs and initiatives launched by the Saudi Space Commission to develop the sector, support its growth, and build national capacities. However, the dialogue is more intriguing because Saudi Arabia is interested in joining the BRICS multilateral, where Brazil is the founder member.

It is worth noting that the Saudi Space Commission collaborates with various international organisations and entities to enhance the Kingdom’s global position in the space sector. The Commission also strives to increase its competitiveness by taking advantage of promising opportunities brought about by the evolving demands of the space industry and its technologies. On the other hand, Brazil has extensive space cooperation agreements with numerous countries and has excellent space launch and satellite capabilities. The meeting between Al-Tamimi and de Mora is considered a positive step towards building stronger ties between the Saudi and Brazilian space sectors.
